Our five Fitchburg interns joined the twelve Worcester interns at a team-building retreat at Camp Harrington in Boylston, MA. For the second year in a row, no rain! Here are some pics:

HealthAlliance Hospital Wins 2010 Health Cares’ Most Wireless Award!

Great news for HealthAlliance Hospital, where our residents complete their inpatient rotations.  For three years in a row, we are the only community hospital to receive this award. Wheels Are Turnin' at Longsjo Bike Race

The new trainees in the Sports Medicine Fellowship and the Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency provided medical support services for the annual Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, the four day premier cycling eventof the Northeast on July 2-5. Participants included fellows Gabe Lurvey and Brad Bley, and interns (from left): Amanda Iantosca, Rocio Noedfeldt, Matthew Plosker, and Elliot Schaeffer.


Faculty participants included Kathi Riggert, Jay Broadhurst, Herb Stevenson, and Jim Ledwith. The work usually calls for providing care for abrasions, contusions, and dehydration, but on Friday it included the prompt triage and dispatch of a post race acute myocardial infarction.

Graduation 2010!


On Saturday night, June 26, the Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency and the Sports Medicine Fellowship hosted their annual graduation ceremonies and reception at the Chocksett Inn in Sterling, MA. In addition to faculty tributes to the graduates, the PGY-2 resident class put together a terrific slideshow send-off for their friends and mentors. Congratulations to all!

One of the evening's highlights was a surprise vocal performance by graduating resident Annliza  Piacitelli, who was accompanied on guitar by graduating resident Karla Cristo's husband, Roberto!

New Health Center To Break Ground in June 2010

The renovation and expansion of our current health center will officially kick off with a June 2010 ground-breaking and is expected to be completed by the end of 2011!  The Fitchburg Family Medicine residency will also be housed in this new facility so our future residents will soon be able to learn and practice in a brand-new facility.

New Health Center Building On the Way!

The Fitchburg residency is buzzing with excitement since hearing the news that our community health center has been awarded a $10.7 million facilities improvement grant to build a new home for the program! Senior leaders and staff are completing plans to allow groundbreaking when spring arrives.
